Carers Trust Wales and Carers Wales are working in partnership to deliver a Welsh Government funded project called ‘Carer Aware’. Together, we aim to transform the recognition, respect and support unpaid carers receive in health and social care settings. Through the project, we will work with carers and healthcare professionals to co-produce training sessions and resources for healthcare professionals and students to support them
to be better able to identify, involve and support carers.
Within year one of this project (20/21) we aim to develop training resources for:
- Pre-qualified nursing, medicine and pharmacy students
- Post-qualification CPD for nursing, medicine and pharmacy staff
These resources will then be piloted through relevant universities and professional bodies.
In the second year of the project we will hold 7 training sessions within universities and in partnership with health professional bodies based on these training resources.
Beyond these sessions, we will develop complementary resources to support those undertaking training via CPD to translate their learning into local action, developing their practice and that of the teams they work in. This will ensure that more unpaid carers are involved in the development of service models and better identified and supported in health care environments.
Can you help us?
To make sure we’re developing resources and training that are truly useful we want to understand what is already working well, what training and support is available and what additional training and resources would help both carers and professionals.
We want to ensure all training and resources meet carers and professionals’ needs and provide enhanced local and profession-specific knowledge to make putting learning into practice easy.
We are holding 6 initial focus groups, with no more than 15 attendees per session to allow for in-depth discussion.
